How fair trade helps to reduce poverty

Fair trade ensures farmers and workers in developing countries receive a fair price for their produce, without subsidies, just through our shopping. Fairtrade certified products must meet a set of internationally agreed standards, ensuring the price paid to their producers cover their costs, and contributes to projects that improve living standards in the area.

The more people buy Fairly traded products, the more evidence our governments have that the voting public wants fair trade rules. The WFTC believes fair trade can help protect those with less power in the world markets and, at the same time, can help us convince our governments that the free trade system needs refining to operate more fairly.
