Fair Trade Campaign receives a boost from political leaders.
THE Wokingham Fair Trade Campaign has received a massive boost from the area’s political leaders.
All four MPs who represent the borough have agreed to back the campaign, which aims to promote the sale of fair trade products to local people and the use of fair trade products by local businesses.
John Redwood, MP for Wokingham; Theresa May, MP for Maidenhead; Rob Wilson, MP for Reading East and Andrew Mackey, MP for Bracknell, met members of the campaign at the Houses of Parliament to offer their support last week ahead of World Fair Trade Day on Saturday May 8.
Colin Weedon, chairman of the Wokingham Fair Trade Campaign said: “It is fantastic to get the support of all four of the borough’s MPs and it is a great boost to the campaign.
“These are busy people so we really appreciate them giving their time to support fair trade and they are also influential people so it is helpful to have them onside.”
This year’s World Fair Trade Day focussed on the environmental benefits buying fair trade products can bring because ethical producers not only protect their workers, but also the land in which they and their workers live.
