Rob Wilson and the Wokingham Fair Trade Campaign Celebrate Directory Launch

The Wokingham Fair Trade Campaign (WFTC) works within the local community raising the profile of Fairtrade, educating local people about where they can buy Fairtrade products and helping local businesses promote their Fairtrade goods. The group publishes the Wokingham Borough Fair Trade Directory, showing shops and restaurants in the area which offer fair trade items, and has created a local network for fair trade supporters to share learning resources and news. Since being established only three years ago the WFTC has received copious amounts of support from the local community as well as local and national politicians.

Last Saturday the Wokingham Fair Trade Campaign was celebrating the launch of its newest directory and the local community was out in force to show their support. Reading East MP Rob Wilson attended the event with his children in tow and Wokingham Town Centre Manager Jacques Lherbier also showed up to show his support. Waitrose in Woodly kindly offered to host the event and committee members from the WFTC were on hand all day to answer any questions shoppers had about Fair Trade as well as give information.

Campaign leader Colin Weedon said, "I was delighted to spend some time talking to both Rob and Jacques and I am very impressed by their understanding of the issues and as well as their support for what we're doing. The day as a whole was a great success and it is important for shoppers to remember during this economic time that Fair Trade is an excellent cause, is still important and is affordable".

If you wish to collect a free copy of the directory or to ask any questions on Fairtrade please email infor@wokingham-fairtrade.org.uk. www.wokingham-fairtrade.org.uk offers information and an online version of the Wokingham Borough Fairtrade Directory.
